At Freya, we put huge emphasis on employing natural methods to minimize the strain of diseases and conditions like pregnancy on the body. In pregnancy, the muscles, joints, and ligaments experience a significant change that affects the whole body. Pre and postnatal physiotherapy instructors help women manage these changes and teach them skills and techniques such as positioning, rhythmic movement, massage, relaxation, and breathing exercises which can help reduce or prevent pregnancy-related problems. Our therapists are specially certified in the management of pregnant women through yoga.

Prenatal yoga

During pregnancy, pick up safe ways to relax and stay fit. Prenatal yoga helps stay active and prepares your body for childbirth. Prenatal yoga is a multifaceted approach to exercise that encourages stretching, and focused breathing. Research suggests that prenatal yoga is safe and can have multiple benefits for pregnant women and their babies. It improves sleep, reduces stress, increases the strength, flexibility, and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth, decreases lower back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms, headaches, and shortness of breath. Prenatal yoga also helps you meet and interact with other pregnant women and prepare for motherhood.

Postnatal Yoga

After the baby is born, it is important to follow a series of exercises to strengthen the muscles which have been stretched by pregnancy and birth. This helps prevent backache, promotes correct posture, and helps you regain your figure more quickly. Your circulation and breathing also benefit. The physiotherapist shows how to do the exercises. Pelvic floor and gentle deep tummy muscle exercises are vital and you should do them every day to encourage the muscle fibres to function normally again. This takes up to several months after childbirth.
